When Nick Armstrong asked me to a podcast on his site Psychotic Resumes, I was so excited! Then I got a terrible cold and thought I would never be able to actually record the podcast. I felt better one day and decided to record the podcast. I sound pretty sick, but I think my advice still sounds pretty good.
So go to Psychotic Resumes and check out my podcast on how to turn your internship into a job!
Why you should hire me February 3, 2009

To those of you who come to my blog to hear my musings on social media and Texas Football, you can just go ahead and skip right over this blog post (trust me on this one).
BUT, if you are reading this blog post because you want to know why you as a recruiter, PR professional, marketer, social media expert, etc. should hire me, then you are in the right place!
So let’s get started. I am currently a Senior at University of Texas (PR major) and am getting ready to graduate in May. Since times are not looking pretty (in case you had not noticed), I figured a blog post about my skills may help me find a job. And if it doesn’t help me find a job, at least I’ve taken the time to think through some of my skills and strengths so I will be ready to wow whoever my next interviewer happens to be.
Here it goes, why YOU should hire me (or at least why you should tell your co-workers, boss, people you know about me):
1. Fear: When it comes to work there is nothing I am afraid of. It doesn’t matter if I am working in an office of 8 (like I did at Edelman Public Relations) or an office of over 5,000 (like I did at Coca-Cola), I am not intimidated by people I work with. Instead, I am impressed by most people’s knowledge and I am passionate for learning about their specialities and skills. I’m also not afraid of new assignments, even if I’m afraid of failing at any task. I’ll always try my best at whatever I am doing, and I will never ever be afraid.
2. Experience: I’ve worked every semester and summer since my sophomore year in college and I have a lot of experience in PR, marketing and social media. I’ve interned at two PR firms, Edelman and GCI Group, and I’ve worked in healthcare, consumer and tourism PR. I am confident in my media relations skills and the analytical skills I gained through these experiences. I have also worked in digital communications for The Coca-Cola Company. During my internship I was able to learn about how a large corporation can use social media to better reach its consumers. During my time at Coca-Cola I worked on corporate blogging, SEO and social networking sites to connect with users. Since August I have worked in marketing at National Instruments. I work a lot on engaging consumers through social media and increasing collaboration in our online community. My point is, I have PR, marketing and social media experience.
3. Speed: I work fast, and I mean VERY FAST. You won’t find me at work reading Perez Hilton or staring into space, if I am at work I am doing my work. And if I don’t know how to do my work, I am finding someone who can teach me how to do it. I never quit and I never slow down. During my internship at Coca-Cola part of my job was to make recommendations on how to rework the corporate website to enhance usability. This required me to literally look through and evaluate thousands and thousands of pages on the site. I never gave up on the project, and was able to finish it and present it to my manager. It wouldn’t have mattered to me if it was million of pages, I would have used my speed to get it done, and I would have done it well.
I know you are thinking, there are only three reasons why you should hire me? No of course not, there are literally hundreds of reasons (but why would you want to read about them here?) Contact me at chelseablakesunshine@gmail.com or @blakesunshine on Twitter or just leave a comment on my blog if you want to know more.
Also, my resume and some writing samples can be found on the top navigation of my blog’s landing page.
And I promise, more blog posts on MUCH more interesting subjects to come soon.
