In my first edition of Facebook tips and tricks I wrote about some of my favorite things you can do on Facebook that most people don’t know about. Since that post, A LOT has changed about Facebook. They have added some new awesome features, which will enhance your Facebook experience.

1. See your privacy settings- Facebook privacy settings can be so confusing! I want some people to see my pictures, others to see my wall and I’m never sure if I got it right or not. If you go into your settings and follow the path to your privacy settings you can now see how each of your friends sees your profile.

Just type in a friend’s name:

fb 1

And you can view your profile how they see it!

No more second guessing your privacy settings! Now you can see for yourself what your old boss, grandmother or little cousin can see on your Facebook profile.

2. Subscribe via SMS- Just like on Twitter, Facebook now allows you to subscribe to friend’s updates via text message. Just go to your friends’ profile and look under their profile picture.

Now you will never miss what your Facebook friends are doing!

3. Hide Facebook quizzes- The most obnoxious thing about the new Facebook stream is that you have to see the results of the quizzes your friends take. Well not anymore! When a quiz shows up in your stream scroll your mouse over to the rights and click “hide.”

From there you can hide that quiz, and you will never see the results of the quiz no matter how many of your friends take it.

I hope this post was helpful to you. Please share your favorite Facebook tips and tricks in the comments section of this post!

I get asked a lot about the usability of Facebook and about how to execute certain tasks. However, sometimes when trying to answer these questions I discover tips and tricks that I think would be helpful to any Facebook user. Some of the readers may think these tips are amateur and some may have no idea what I am talking about. But regardless, I hope these will be helpful. Here are some of my more recently discovered Facebook tips and tricks:

1. Make different friend lists- You can add different friends to different lists and edit the security settings for each group. When you receieve a friend request you can chose what group a person belongs in. As you can see, I have a professional group for people I work with. It’s really helpful also if you want to share photos with just certain people. You can also message each of your lists from the main friend page.

2. Add your friend’s status updates to your RSS feed- If you are like me and love to read your friend’s status updates, you mine as well add them to your RSS reader and read them along with your favorite blogs, news, etc.

3. Sort gifts by price- If you go to the gift application you can sort gifts by price and see the ones that are offered for free. Sometimes it’s fun to send a few free gifts to your Facebook friends.

4. Less about- I know some people who can’t stand their news feed. The poor news feed gets a bad rap because it is constantly reminding people of their ex-boyfriend’s new pictures or the middle school mean girl’s college success. A feature on your news feed now allows you to make the news disappear without having to de-friend a person. Just click on the pencil next to an object on your newsfeed and click “less about.”
