According to Mark Zuckerberg, Facebook has decided to bring back their old terms of service. Hooray!

As they are working to create new terms of service, Facebook has created a group where users can input their thoughts and views on what Facebook terms of service should be.

Seems to me like someone over at Facebook headquarters said, “duh lets collaborate,” and they are right. Collaboration is one of the most important things about social media, and one of the top reasons that people sign up for and use Facebook.

So collaborate on fellow Facebook users, let’s all work together to create an agreement where we own our own information.

Last week Facebook edited their Terms of Service agreement and now anything you upload to your Facebook page is now entirely owned by Facebook.

According to the Consumerist, “Now, anything you upload to Facebook can be used by Facebook in any way they deem fit, forever, no matter what you do later. Want to close your account? Good for you, but Facebook still has the right to do whatever it wants with your old content. They can even sublicense it if they want.”

User generated content is the greatest thing in the world, and I guess I always assumed that anything I put on the internet was free game but SERIOUSLY?! I think these new TOS are taking it just a little too far. Facebook now owns all of the photos I have ever taken (so much for privacy settings) and thank goodness I don’t feed my blog in to Facebook notes because then they would own all of my ideas too.

I’m really disapointed in the way Facebook has tried to trick their users into this agreement, the least the could have done is have all users agree to the new terms of service or allow them to deactivate their accounts before it went into effect.

I don’t like this Facebook, not one bit!

thumbsdown
